Wills

A will is a document used by a person to decide who they want their assets to be given to after they pass away.

Power of Attorney

A Power of Attorney (POA) is a document that is used to allow a person to make decisions for you if you are unable to make decisions for yourself. POAs can be used for various reasons. Some people have medical POAs which allow a person to make medical decisions for them in the event that they cannot make medical decisions for themselves.

Living Will

A living will is used when a person makes decisions about what type of care they want at the end of their life.

Successions

A succession is the process of transferring the assets of the deceased person into the possession of their heirs. A succession has to be filed in court and signed by a judge.

A small succession affidavit is used when the total of the decedent’s estate is less than $125,000.00.  The affidavit of a small succession has to be filed in the Clerk of Court’s office and does not have to be signed by a judge.
